How To Make Your Makeup Last All Day | Oily Skin Edit

If you have oily and acne-prone skin like I do and want your makeup to last all day, here’s my step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Prep & Prime

  1. Cleanser – Start with a gentle, oil-free cleanser to remove excess oil and prep your skin.
  2. Toner – Use a salicylic acid toner to help with acne control.
  3. Oil-Free Moisturizer – A lightweight, mattifying moisturizer will keep your skin hydrated without excess oil.
  4. Sunscreen – Always use an oil-free, non-comedogenic SPF (even under makeup).
  5. Primer – A mattifying primer (like Benefit Porefessioal) will help control shine and smooth pores.

Base Makeup

  1. Foundation – A long-wear, oil-free, matte foundation (like Estée Lauder Double Wear ) will keep you shine-free.
  2. Concealer – Use a full-coverage concealer (like Tarte Shape Tape) on blemishes and under the eyes.
  3. Setting Powder – A finely milled, oil-controlling powder (like Laura Mercier Translucent Powder) will lock everything in.

Eyes & Brows

  1. Eyebrows – Use a precise brow pencil (like Anastasia Brow Wiz) to shape your brows naturally.
  2. Eyeshadow – Stick to neutral tones for an everyday look.
  3. Eyeliner – A waterproof gel or liquid liner (like KVD Tattoo Liner) will stay put all day.
  4. Mascara – A smudge-proof, lengthening mascara (like Hourglass Unlocked) is great for long wear.

Cheeks & Lips

  1. Bronzer – Lightly sculpt with a matte bronzer (like Benefit Hoola or Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess)
  2. Blush – A long-wearing, oil-free blush (like MILK lip and cheek quickies) adds color without clogging pores.
  3. Highlighter – A subtle powder highlight on the high points of your face.
  4. Lips – A long-lasting matte lipstick or lip stain (like NYX Soft Matte Cream).

Set & Finish

  1. Setting Spray – A matte setting spray (like Urban Decay All Nighter or Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish) will keep your makeup in place all day.
